Creative Reflection
Workshops

Sometimes words aren't enough. Sometimes, before we can reach them, we need to pass through a different door. The creative workshops at Ara Mekân are one such door.
These workshops require no artistic skill or prior experience, nor do they aim to produce a finished piece. The aim is simply to find space to rest, to settle, and to approach oneself with a quieter kind of attention. Whether it is the exhaustion and rootlessness that migration can bring, or the things that go unheard in the noise of everyday life, these workshops offer room for what has not yet been voiced.
Workshop Formats
-
Deep Listening: Drawing on Pauline Oliveros' philosophy of deep listening, sound serves here as both a tool and an environment. Through the act of listening itself, we turn our attention back to ourselves and the world around us.
-
Sounds of Home: A sound meditation experience designed specifically for adults who have migrated from Turkey.
-
From Nature: A sound meditation experience that moves beyond the noise and pace of the city, attending to the language of wind, water and forest.
-
-
Intuitive Drawing: Centring on process rather than outcome, this workshop moves inward through line, colour and texture. An exploration without a destination, and without judgement.
-
Self-Awareness with Therapeutic Cards: Guided by visual cards and reflective prompts, this format invites participants to give shape to feelings that resist words and to deepen personal awareness. A mirror held to the inner world through the language of symbols and archetypes.
