About
Hello everyone, I’m Deniz.
I have brought my nine-plus years of practical experience in psychological counselling to a new level here in Hamburg, where I have lived since 2023. By combining evidence-based methods with creative, community-focused activities, I established Ara Mekân. This is a space where individuals with migration experiences can come together. We welcome anyone who believes in the importance of cultural diversity.

Manifesto
Ara Mekân is a platform for psychology, art and community. It is designed for people who want to create space for their own experiences amidst the pace of modern life. It is a place to pause, take a breath and forge connections.
In Turkish, 'ara' represents both a pause and the distance between two points. In today's world, where the distances between cities, languages and cultures are increasing, it is important not only to take a break, but also to share this journey with others.
While we struggle to hear our own voices amid the daily hustle and bustle, we often overlook the positive aspect of being in a community. Ara Mekân steps in precisely at this point.
Group Rules
Tolstoy asks the most important questions about our existence:
What lives within us? What are we not given? What do we live by? The answer: Love.
Ara Mekân is an idea that begins here. Migration arrives with a whole world of feeling, maybe joy and grief, excitement and loss, or hope and exhaustion. Can we hold all of these, without sorting them into the acceptable and the difficult? Can we approach every chapter of our own story with compassion, without measuring ourselves against others or rushing to judge what we find?
And if, instead of criticising, labelling, or dismissing one another, we chose to encourage each other, in a space built on unconditional acceptance, what kind of world might that be?
We may not be able to change the whole world. But at Ara Mekân, we can build something together: a space we shape through shared values, and breathe life into as a community. To make sure every participant feels free to express themselves, all events and services are guided by the following principles:
1.
Inclusivity
2.
Privacy
3.
Consent
4.
Mutual Respect
5.
Sustainability
